Il volume contiene una serie di approfondimenti riguardanti le trasformazioni di Roma nel Cinquecento, di cui in precedenza è stato fornito un quadro generale articolato in base alla successione dei pontificati («L’ambiente storico», volume XII). The volume presents the results of further investigation on the sixteenth-century transformation of Rome, a topic previously covered in an overview organized in sections following the order of succession of the popes («L’ambiente storico» volume XII). This further investigation focuses on the major factors – urban functions and building typologies – that brought about previous changes throughout the century, both in the city and its territory.
